When selecting a print partner, it is important to research and understand that the printers offer is underpinned by a robust supply chain and expert support services. At Acorn we work closely with many approved partners to ensure that all our customers get value from the relationships we have in place and the decisions we make as a business.
This includes the supply of materials in a timely manner, responsive systems that drive our general business functions, user friendly customer interfaces and prompt support with machine breakdowns and disaster recovery, but increasingly this is about sharing the common goal of working together responsibly and delivering on sustainability.

Graphic Communications

Working closely with Graphic Communication and principally by using their dedicated MIS software Technique, this has enabled Acorn to make smarter, data-driven decisions by leveraging insights for strategic planning and resource allocation. As a result, and by investing in a new 32pp web press, we have been able to accurately measure that we have reduced paper waste by 660 tons annually. This is a significant achievement, and it demonstrates our strong commitment to conducting business responsibly and making sustainability a core principle of our operations.

Working in conjunction with Graphic Communications who are an MIS/ERP integration partner we have used CarbonQuota’s expertise and technology insights to develop an automated enhancement to our written print quotations. On every print estimate that we provide to customers we now also offer them an accurate carbon calculation. As sustainability is high on many of our customers agenda, buyers increasingly wish to know which selection of materials can not only satisfy their quality aims and budget, but those that can cut their impact on the environment too.

ECO3 (formerly AGFA Offset Solutions):
By working closely with our pre-press hardware and software provider, collectively we have lowered our impact on the environment. With their help we removed an older conventional plate stream and by implementing ECO3’s environmentally safer ‘Energy Elite Eco’ printing plates. These robust, no bake, thermal printing plates have allowed us to cut 1 million litres of water and 18,000 litres of chemistry from our operation each year.
Furthermore, by using ECO3’s ink-saving solutions and SPIR@L screening technology and their pursuit to ‘Reduce, Maintain, and Gain’ our customers are already benefitting from an average 10% reduction in ink consumption whilst achieving a cleaner enhanced print quality. As we use over 200 tonnes of heatset ink each year this represents a strong benefit that our customers are already enjoying.

Sun Chemical:
Without ink there is no print, so it is integral that we work with a reliable partner and one that has similar goals. Whilst the high speed, high volume, heatset process we offer at Acorn Web is unable to work with vegetable based inks the data that Sun Chemical uses to set improvement targets for its processes in energy and water consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and solid waste emissions using what they call “the five Rs” – reuse, reduce, recycle, renew and redesign – as a way to guide their sustainability efforts in their operations, product development and cross industry partnerships is market leading.
