Health & Safety Manager
Tom has been working in print for 45 years, originally starting as an apprentice paste up artist and camera operator. After finishing his City & Guilds 518 graphic arts qualification and with technology changing, he adapted to become a four-colour planner. Tom joined Acorn in 1993 and after several years he progressed to be a Repro Supervisor. In 2007 following a BSI review he was asked if he would be interested in getting involved with Health & Safety, an opportunity he grasped with both hands. In the years that followed Tom as a Health & Safety Advisor equipped himself with various qualifications including IOSH Managing Safely, Nebosh General Certification, Nebosh Fire Certification, Managing Human Behaviour, and Internal Auditing. Running alongside that role he has also worked in the maintenance department ordering parts for our machines and organising the manning for our busy bindery department. In 2021 Tom progressed to be our Health & Safety Manager a role he describes as demanding but very rewarding. Along with the help of his team, the goal is to make Acorn a safe place to work.
Health & Safety Advisor
Mark joined Acorn 25 years ago and he came into the business with no printing experience. His willingness to learn and adapt to different opportunities has seen him perform several different roles. Whilst most of his career has been spent in the press hall, he has worked in all areas of production too.
This grounding has helped him in his most recent role as a Health and Safety Advisor, and he has further benefited from the training provided by Acorn. This includes a NEBOSH General Certificate and a NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate. Mark is responsible for the induction training of all new starters and is therefore usually the first person a new employee would meet on their first day.
