PDF Specifications
We understand the frustration experienced by customers when preparing a job for print. Which job option should be used? Is there a specific standard which needs to be followed? Can I send files to the next printer using the job options from the previous job? Will this printer ensure all overprints knockout or do I need to ensure I configure my files correctly?
With this in mind, Acorn Web have adopted the industry standard for PDF generation. This is called Pass4press and was introduced by the Periodical Publishers Association (PPA) to ease the way for the supply of digital advertising to magazine publishers and their suppliers. It is a set of best practice guidelines on how to create reliable print-ready PDF files. A PDF file which complies with pass4press specifications should require no additional handling instructions. Pass4press aims to increase predictability and reliability within the digital workflow.
The PDF-based format has become adopted across the workflow and is being used for editorial as well as advertising pages. The pass4press initiative has been expanded to provide mechanisms that assist in the creation and management of digital workflows for the end-to-end production of magazines in the UK.
